A trial date is coming this upcoming spring for a Herington man charged with the murder of former Emporian Mackenzie Payne.
Trial for Dylan Barber will begin March 25 in Wichita, based on the current schedule out of Sedgwick County District Court. A motions hearing in the case is coming Thursday.
Barber has been charged with first-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon after Payne was stabbed to death in late June. Barber had a prior conviction in 2015 for burglary in Reno County.
Payne, a 2013 graduate of Emporia High School and a member of the high school swim team, was preparing to enter medical school at the University of Kansas when she was killed.
