An Emporia woman was taken to a Kansas City hospital for medical treatment after a one-vehicle accident near Kansas City on Sunday morning.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol’s crash log, a 2006 Ford Escape driven by 19-year-old Stephanie Rueda of Emporia was traveling along Interstate 70 at mile marker 414, roughly nine miles east of Bonner Springs. For currently unknown reasons, Rueda lost control of the vehicle and then struck a median barrier shortly before 8 am.
Rueda was taken to KU Medical Center with suspected minor injuries. According to the Highway Patrol, a passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Jonathan A. Martinez, rode with EMS to the hospital but did not require medical treatment.
Both Rueda and Martinez were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
