A preliminary hearing is coming for an Emporia man who allegedly stole a truck in Emporia and led a short chase out of town last month.
Blake Cheney, 33, was charged last month with aggravated burglary, theft, flee and elude, reckless driving, criminal carrying a weapon and driving while revoked or suspended. The charges follow a mid-December incident where a pickup was stolen from the 1500 block of Thompson, leading to a vehicle pursuit and foot chase that ended with Cheney’s arrest at a rural farmstead in the 1200 block of Road 160 just south of Emporia.
The hearing is at 2 pm Wednesday in Lyon County District Court.
As Cheney allegedly stole the truck, the vehicle owner, Brian Wilhite, allegedly shot several rounds at him after reportedly seeing a dark figure pointing at him and realizing there was a loaded gun in the cab. A decision on whether to file formal charges against Wilhite has not been announced.
