Students at Burlington Middle School had an interesting Thursday morning.
USD 244 building staff discovered a gas leak in the building before classes started, prompting students and staff to evacuate to Burlington’s Recreation Center for a short period of time. It was later determined that a leak was found in a kitchen stove in a Home Economics classroom.
Atmos Energy says the leak apparently involved some customer piping. The situation was resolved before classes started at 8:15 am.
No injuries were reported. Staff monitored the building all day to ensure safe operations.
