The Emporia High boys basketball team opened play in the Ralph Miller Classic Thursday night with a 56-52 loss to Chanute.
The Spartans jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Chanute rallied to tie the game at 12 at the end of the first quarter. The Blue Comets led 25-20 at halftime. Emporia High trailed by 10 before cutting the deficit to 1 but could never retake the lead. Emporia High Coach Beau Welch said they were out played.
Emporia High had 4 players score in double figures, Spencer Stewart and Kyler McCullough both scored 12 points, Charles Snyder and Beau Baumgardner each added 10 points. The Spartans will play Goddard today at 4:45p.
Olathe North defeated Goddard 79-58.
In yesterdays other first round game in the Ralph Miller Classic Republic, Missouri defeated Coffeyville 48-47 and Andover Central was a 65-54 winner over Leavenworth.
