Four local teachers are being recognized for their outstanding dedication to their jobs and the students that they impact.
During our showcase on Jan. 15th with USD 253 Superintendent Kevin Case, these four individuals got to talk about their passions in teaching what led them to where they are today.
These four teachers are:
Jill Lynch, the strategist at Walnut Elementary School was nominated as the 2019 Kansas Master Teacher.
Robert Ovsak, the 7th-grade social studies teacher at Emporia Middle School was also nominated for the 2019 Kansas Teacher of the Year.
Shely Perez, the family and consumer sciences (FACS) teacher at Emporia Middle School was nominated for 2019 Kansas Teacher of the Year.
Holly Abel, a 1st-grade teacher at Riverside Elementary School received the Horizon Award.
Each teacher reacted to the news of their nominations in a similarly humble way. Lynch had this to say about her nomination for Master Teacher.
These teachers all have an undisputed passion for Emporia’s children. Abel explains what makes it all worth it to her.
Congratulations and thanks are in order for these area teachers and all other teachers who help shape the youth of Emporia.
