Work has started on a major infrastructure addition in Emporia.
A 1-million-gallon water tower is now under construction near the intersection of Warren Way and Penny Lane. City Engineer Jim Ubert has details:
The water tower is designed to improve pressure and service for residents and businesses nearby. Estimated total cost is between $3 million and $3.5 million, although the federal government is offsetting $1.5 million of that cost.
Construction will start next month and could last through November. Additional work to help facilitate remote operation could last into spring 2020.
