Lyon County Commissioners voted to sign the Consumer Rating System program recertification during their weekly action session Thursday.
Lyon County Flood Plain Manager Sam Seeley presented the document before commissioners which provides landowners with discounted flood insurance premiums. The discount for Lyon County is currently 10 percent, the amount of the discount is dictated by the County’s classification within the National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System. The classification system runs 1-10 with Lyon County currently in the eighth classification which grants a discount of 10 percent.
In order for the county to be eligible for the discounts Seeley, as the flood plain manager, must maintain certification through the Association of State Floodplain Managers.
Flood insurance is normally required by a bank for any homeowners who lives in a flood plain area. Flood insurance policies are separate from homeowners insurance.
Flood plain areas are determined by a flood insurance rate map based of data gathered by the National Flood Insurance Program.
Commissioners approved the reapplication unanimously.

The bid from Nelson/Fowles came in well under the original work estimate of $62,402 totalling $57,600.
The bid was approved unanimously.
