The Emporia School District is taking a new tack when it comes to safety and security renovations.
On Wednesday night, the Board of Education rejected an overall bid and decided to restart the bid process with a focus on individual project components as opposed to a single, all-encompassing bid. Assistant Superintendent for Business Operations Rob Scheib says one potential bidder submitted paperwork, and the bid was nearly double the district’s estimate.
Scheib says the district now will act as the project’s general contractor and will essentially seek out potential subcontractors for the different components, including concrete work, windows and technology.
The goal is to come back to the board with bids at the Feb. 13 meeting.
In other business, Superintendent Kevin Case told the board more details are pending about the district’s bi-annual climate survey offered to students, parents and patrons last fall, so final data will be announced later.
