A Big Win for the Emporia High Girls basketball team in the opening round of the Glaciers Edge Tournament Thursday night.
The Lady Spartans upset the number 2 seed and 6th ranked Topeka High 50-49. The game was close throughout. The largest lead for Topeka High was by 6. The Largest lead for Emporia High was by 5. The Lady Spartans out scored Topeka High 12-9 in the 4th quarter to steal the win.
Coach Carolyn Dorsey was impressed with the defensive effort.
Maya Tovar led the offense with 12 points. Taylor Milleson added 11 and Emily Christiansen added 10 points.
The Lady Spartans will face Topeka Seaman tonight in the 6:15 game. Seaman defeated Shawnee Mission South 50-35.
In the other first round games:
Derby defeated Shawnee Mission North 65-17. Wichita Northwest defeated Goddard Eisenhower 54-51.
Fridays schedule begins at 3:15 with Shawnee Mission North playing Goddard Eisenhower. Followed by Topeka High playing Shawnee Mission South. At 6:15 Emporia High plays Seaman. In the late game Wichita Northwest plays Derby. All games will be played in the main gym.
