Flu and finances were among the main talking points during the Flint Hills Community Health Center’s most recent board meeting.
Flu season has been mild with less than 10 positive cases as of Tuesday, according to Executive Director Renee Hively.
Hively cautions that flu season lasts until March and sometimes April, so there could be a spike in flu activity areawide.
Both Hively and Chief Financial Officer Stephanie Ringgold say finances are in good shape after the uncomfortable decision was made late last year to close the satellite clinic at Madison High School. With the Madison clinic in place, the Health Center projected a loss of over $280,000. Take that out, and the Health Center would have had an $85,000 positive ending balance.
The decision was made in December as part of the Health Center’s 36-month turnaround plan enacted in late 2017 after close to $470,000 in losses in August and October 2017. Ringgold says the turnaround plan is working as planned.
Hively, meanwhile, says the Health Center is working to improve its cash on hand to 90 days and is now looking more towards profitability.
