Missouri Southern out scored the Emporia State mens basketball team 80-77 Saturday afternoon.
The game featured 5 ties and 9 lead changes. Emporia State trailed by 6 in the first half and used a 11-0 run to start the 2nd half to build a 10 point but could not hang on down the stretch. Southern would out score the Hornets 19-6 from the free throw line to earn the win. The Hornets kept pace by hitting 17 3 point shots. Coach Craig Doty was pleased with the way the Hornets competed.
Julius Jackson was 5 for 6 behind the arc and finished with a team high 22 points. Malik Hluchoweckyj scored 12 points before leaving with an ankle injury. Justin Washington and Kam Rowan both scored 10 points. The Hornets are now 7-11 for the season and2-7 in the MIAA. They will host Lindenwood Thursday.
