Olpe and Burlingame both repeat as Lyon County League Champions.
In the girl’s championship, Olpe would dominate the Waverly Lady Bulldogs throughout the game to collect their 15th Lyon County League Championship in 20 years with a 75-23 win.
Waverly would manage to hold Olpe to a 10 point lead in the first before the Lady Eagles would go on a 21-3 run in the second and never look back on their way to a repeat championship win.
Olpe sophomore Macy Smith called the win a total team effort.
Sophomore Maya Bishop says they adjusted to Waverly’s defense well.
Olpe Head Coach Jesse Nelson says he got great minutes out of his entire bench.
Olpe was led in scoring by Smith with 16 points and Bishop with 14. Waverly was led in scoring by senior Lillian McWilliams with 11 points.
In the boy’s championship Burlingame would manage to pull ahead of Lebo on their way to a 45-38 win.
The score would be even at the half 20-20 before Burlingame would manage a 15-8 run to take a 35-28 lead into the fourth quarter. Lebo would come as close as five to tying up the game but could never catch up to the lead as Burlingame would go on to capture it’s second consecutive Lyon County League championship.
Senior Trevin Lewis says solid play on both ends of the floor gave the Bearkats the edge.
Senior Montana Giffin says it feels good to get the win over a formidable opponent.
Burlingame Head Coach Eric West says the win gives them a big boost heading into the back half of the season.
Burlingame was led in scoring by Giffin with 12 points. Lebo was led by Devan McEwen with 14.
