Nearly 400 Westar Energy customers in northwest Emporia lost their electric service around mid-afternoon Thursday. Service has been restored.
Emporia Fire says an insulator broke on a pole near two high-voltage lines in the 2400 block of Graphic Arts around 3 pm. When the insulator broke, the lines touched, the fuse popped and the electricity went out.
Westar restored service just after 4 pm.

Close to 400 Westar Energy customers have been affected by a power outage in west Emporia.
Emporia Fire Crews were toned out just prior to 3 pm Thursday afternoon for a reported electrical fire at 2422 Graphic Arts Road. According to Battalion Chief Rich Gould, upon arrival crews learned an insulator broke on a pole leading two high voltage wires, roughly three feet apart, to touch causing the fuse to pop.
Approximately 390 Westar customers are currently without power in the vicinity.
Westar crews are on scene working to resolve the situation. Further details are pending.
