Warm temperatures in Saturday’s forecast currently aren’t canceling Overbrook’s plans for a sanctioned goose hunt in the city limits.
Overbrook has had a longstanding issue with geese at the City Lake and Overbrook Kid’s Fishing Pond. The town has had issues almost every year with toxic blue-green algae, and the geese are considered as a major contributing factor.
City Clerk Jim Koger says high temperatures in the 50s may push the hunt from a sunrise start to the afternoon, although that plan hasn’t finalized yet.
Overbrook has another hunt scheduled Feb. 16. A hunt Jan. 19 involved two hunters and yielded four geese. The first planned hunt Jan. 5 was canceled due to warm weather.
Meanwhile, Overbrook has been having water main issues recently. A 4-inch line failed near the town’s wells either late Thursday or early Friday. Repairs continue, with the work affecting rural customers near the wells. Another line broke on Seventh near Maple on Thursday. Repair work took place all day afterward.
