Supplies are running low at the Salvation Army’s food pantry and they’re seeking assistance to help refill the shelves.
According to Salvation Army Captain Deb Thompson, KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 guest Thursday, the pantry has seen a rise from 110 to 125 people per month recently. Thompson explains there are several factors which may have led to the increase.
Thompson adds when the shelves begin to run low they receive support from the Kansas Food Bank and local churches. However, due to the shortage of supplies on hand, this could lead to families receiving roughly half of what is required.
Individuals may visit the food pantry once a month to receive food and essentials. Those wishing to do so must bring with them a valid photo ID and proof of residence.
In terms of immediate needs, Thompson has those details.
She adds the Salvation Army is considering additional efforts during the winter months, much like the KVOE Drive for Food, to help keep shelves stocked when the weather turns bitter, however, there is currently no specific plans towards such endeavours.
If you would like to assist the Salvation Army you may do so by bringing donations of non-perishable food items to the food pantry located at 327 Constitution. Donations may be delivered Monday through Friday from 9 am to noon and 1 pm to 4 pm.
If you wish to donate perishable food items please let individuals in the office know so they may place it into a freezer as soon as possible.
