The First Congregational Church of Emporia held its annual ‘Ground Hog Dinner’ on Groundhog Day, selling out within the first hour.
The Ground Hog Dinner has been a tradition of the First Congregational Church for so long, that they don’t even have records of the first one.
With Punxsutawney Phil predicting an early spring, lots of smiles were seen in the Fellowship Hall of First Congregational Church. The dinner began at 5:30 pm and sold out all items within an hour. Sally Conard, organizer for the dinner, goes over what was on the menu.
A donation of $7 was asked of everyone who attended, garnering around $700 by the end of the night. The funds that were raised will go to resurfacing the floors in Fellowship Hall and other church projects.
Future events for the First Congregation Church include a community dinner this upcoming Saturday that is free for anyone in the community. For more information on the church give them a call at (620) 342-6854.
