If you’re interested in drones, the Kansas Department of Transportation is interested in hearing from you.
KDOT is officially seeking public opinion on drone usage in state airspace. The agency wants to get a better understanding on public familiarity and opinion as it works on what’s called the Kansas Unmanned Aerial Systems Integration Pilot Program.
KDOT’s conducting its research and public survey with a federally initiated program in place to alleviate challenges to bringing drones into the national airspace. Kansas is currently focused on efforts along highways, railroads and energy distribution lines — officially known as Long Line Linear Infrastructure — and precision agriculture.
There are a host of business and higher education partners with this effort, including Westar Energy and Wolf Creek.
The survey is online through Feb. 28.
