The Kansas Turnpike Authority has approved contracts for a pair of upcoming projects in Chase County.
One project will rehabilitate and raise the vertical clearance of a bridge over Shaw Creek near milepost 102, five miles northeast of the Matfield Green service area and 25 miles southwest of Emporia. Bettis Asphalt and Construction of Topeka won the contract with a bid of almost $736,000. Construction should begin in March and could end shortly before Thanksgiving.
Separately, Burns & McDonnell of Kansas City, Mo., won a contract to help increase the clearance of 10 bridges, including several in Butler and Chase counties running from mile markers 59 to 99. The bid amount was nearly $8.3 million for this project. Work will begin later this year and finish by December 2020.
