Next weekend several residents will convene at Mouse Lake and take a dip into freezing waters to help support Special Olympics Kansas.
The 2019 Polar Plunge is taking place Saturday, Feb. 16 in Emporia. According to Special Olympics Kansas Regional Director Mitch Guthrie, the Polar Plunge is one of the largest fundraiser events for Kansas Special Olympics.
All proceeds from the Plunge, Polar Strut 5K and Pluck a Duck go to Special Olympics Kansas. Also during the event, the Emporia Senior Center will be hosting a biscuits and gravy breakfast from 8-10 am and a taco lunch from 11-1 pm. A silent auction will also be taking place during the day at the Senior Center.
Nancy Rumold with Special Olympics says they have quite the selection of items to bid on.
All proceeds from the Senior Center events will go to support local Special Olympics. Other events taking place during the day include the annual costume contest which will take place at 11:15 am.
Awards for best costume, top fundraising for individual and group and others will take place at 12:15.
