Just days before a potential government shutdown, members of the House and Senate Appropriation Committees have come up with what they call an agreement in principle for funding.
The key issue, both here and with a month-long shutdown that ended about three weeks ago, has been money for a security package along the US-Mexico border. President Donald Trump has called for nearly $6 billion to fund a wall, while Democrats have said that approach would be ineffective.
Sources tell ABC News the proposal will offer about $1.4 billion for physical barriers, so it’s unclear whether President Trump will sign off. The bill will also address seven spending bills that expired during the most recent shutdown.
The state’s contingent of lawmakers have not offered any statements on the proposal so far.
If President Trump says no to the deal and lawmakers can’t finalize a replacement this week, several federal departments and agencies will shut down at the end of Friday.
