Law enforcement agencies across Kansas are gearing up for a special enforcement effort to end February and start March.
The Lyon and Coffey county sheriff’s offices are among a host of agencies statewide that will participate in the SAFE, or Seatbelts Are For Everyone, effort around high schools. Agencies in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma will all be involved as they try to raise awareness for road safety. Crashes are listed as the leading cause of death for teenagers ages 15-18 — ahead of all other types of injury, violence or disease.
The enforcement effort runs from Feb. 25-March 8. Law enforcement says all seatbelt violations will result in citations during the enforcement period.
