Folks attending the Flint Hills Technical College’s debut Third Thursday evening meal were treated to a taste of the Mediterranean on Thursday night.
Chef Brian Romano set up a six-course meal with food influenced by Italy, Greece, Europe, the Middle East and northern Africa. He says the meal let all facets of the college’s Culinary Arts department be involved.
Second-year students were responsible for cooking the meal. First-year students were responsible for seating and serving. Romano also gave a brief overview of each dish as it was served. Romano says Italian food has a wide range of influences, thanks to the Roman Empire — with foods used in Spain, France, Greece, the Middle East and north Africa all having an influence on what we consider as Italian food today.
Tickets are on sale at $40 each for the nine-course Pacific Rim meal March 21, which will feature dishes from China, Japan and Korea. The final Third Thursday meal is April 18 and will highlight Mexico and Central America. For more information or to get tickets, call the college’s Reeble Student Success Center at 343-4600 ext. 2.
