St. David’s Day is fast approaching, and the community is preparing for the annual concert to celebrate the Welsh holiday.
The local community, including Emporia and Lebo, were originally heavily settled by Welsh immigrants. Celebrations of St. David, patron saint of Wales, are common throughout the area. Concert organizer, Rhonda Gordon talks about the importance of Welsh culture to the community’s history.
Every year, Emporia holds a concert to celebrate St. David’s Day. Rhonda Gordon, organizer of the event, talks about the details of the concert.
Traditional Welsh hymns will be sung in the native language of the country. Guest conductor Eluned Jones will lead the choir, as well as feature in a solo for the concert.
The St. David’s Day concert will take place Mar. 3rd at the Emporia Presbyterian Church beginning at 2:30 pm. Lebo and Arvonia will host a separate St. David’s Day event on Feb. 28th at the United Methodist Church in Lebo.
