A Kansas City music ensemble Baroque out classic instruments to provide listeners with a one of a kind performance Sunday afternoon.
The Kansas City Baroque Consortium (Cun-Sor-Shee-Um) were the featured performers for the latest instalment of the Emporia State University Music Department’s Edith Lessenden Chandler Recital Series at the Granada Theatre Sunday.
Founded in 2009, the consortium is the only locally based ensemble which presents period performances, in this case from the Baroque period of music. The Baroque period lasted from 1500 to 1750 and featured a style of music based on dance types and movements of the period.
The consortium not only performs selections from the Baroque period but also performs using instruments from the time as well. Sunday those instruments included the Baroque violin, cello, viola and flute as well as the harpsichord.
The consortium is well known for its annual summer concert series. The 2019 series will feature “Women of Note,” and will pay tribute to women of the baroque and early classical eras who were important patrons, performers and composers of music whose names and work have been overlooked, dismissed and silenced by historians.
the Edith Lessenden Chandler Recital Series is sponsored by Drs. Margaret and Doug Aman (AY-man). For more information on the Kansas City Baroque Consortium visit www.kcbaroque.org.
