The Altrusa Club’s annual Casino Night at the American Legion saw huge popularity despite the threat of oncoming winter weather.
The evening not only featured several popular poker games such as Texas hold ’em, blackjack, craps, and roulette but also was full of food, drinks, and comradery. An auction also took place, featuring an assortment of donated items.
The funds raised from the evening’s success will go to the benefit of many community efforts, courtesy of the Altrusa Club. Some of these projects include measures to increase literacy in children, scholarship opportunities for local high school seniors. Donations will also be made to organizations such as Plumb Place, Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters Serving Lyon County, Camp Wood, and Camp Alexander. Jean Tidwell, a member of the Altrusa Club and co-chair for the event, talks about the Club’s main points of focus.
Local high school seniors interested in these scholarships can find applications through their guidance counselors.
While the Casino Night remains the Altrusa Club’s largest fundraiser, it isn’t their only one and Tidwell discusses their other event.
If you are interested in joining the Altrusa Club, Tidwell says they are always looking for new members and to call her at (620) 366-1115 for an application. More information can also be reached by visiting their Facebook page at Emporia Altrusa.
