One county in the KVOE listening area has qualified for federal disaster aid after flooding rainfall and severe weather from last fall.
Greenwood County is part of a disaster declaration recently approved by President Trump. Local governments and certain private non-profit agencies now qualify for emergency work as well as facility replacements or repairs on a cost-sharing basis. Typically, cities, counties and the state have to pay the upfront costs, with reimbursements coming from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The designation involves damage from storms Oct. 4-15. Governor Laura Kelly’s office says other counties may be added to this request later.
