Funeral services are coming Saturday for Kirby Smith, Emporia’s Habitat for Humanity president.
Smith died March 7 at age 70.
Jim Kessler worked alongside Smith in their work with Habitat and Knights of Columbus. He called Smith “one of a kind.”
Visitation is from 6-8 pm Friday at the Charter Funerals chapel, 501 West Sixth. Funeral is at 10 am Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Knights of Columbus Leo Council, PO Box 1051 in Emporia.

Emporia’s Habitat for Humanity president has died this week.
Kirby Smith was 70 when he passed away Thursday.
Born in Jackson, Mich., Smith was raised in Elkhart, Indiana. After moving to Emporia, Smith became active in the community. He was part of the Emporia Jaycees, reached fourth degree in the Knights of Columbus and served as district chair of Ducks Unlimited in addition to his time with Habitat for Humanity.
