The Waverly Lady Bulldogs got off to a slow start and were defeated by Hanover 61-32 in the semifinals of the Class 1A State Tournament on Friday afternoon.
Hanover jumped out to a 16-8 first quarter lead and led 31-15 by halftime. Hanover’s length defensively led to 17 Waverly turnovers as Hanover outscored the Lady Bulldogs 24-17 on points off turnovers. Waverly Coach Ty Piper says Hanover’s size affected the Lady Bulldogs all game long.
Waverly was led in scoring by Junior Megan Foster’s 13 points. Sophomore Sara McWilliams added a near-double double with ten points and nine rebounds. Hanover was led by Macy Doebele’s double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds.
