10 am Saturday: High winds to cause travel issues Saturday afternoon, evening
Showers and storms are now out of our area after giving KVOE listeners another soaking overnight.
Around 0.60 inches of rain fell at the KVOE studios, pushing our winter total to almost 6 inches of rain in addition to almost 25 inches of snowfall since November.
The main weather issue for the rest of the day into the evening hours will be high winds. Westerly gusts as high as 50 mph are likely across most of the area through at least early evening, so wind advisories are now up for Lyon, Coffey, Morris and Osage counties until 7 pm and for Chase and Greenwood counties until 6 pm. Lightweight outdoor items will be blown around and north-south traffic, especially for high-profile vehicles and motorcycles, will be a definite concern until the winds ease up overnight.
