The Emporia State baseball team split a doubleheader with Fort Hays State Monday to win the 3 game series.
Fort Hays won the first game 10-5. The Tigers scored 5 of those runs in the 5th inning.
Emporia State won the 2nd game 12-4. The Hornets scored 5 runs in the 4th inning and added 5 more in the 6th inning, highlighted by a grand slam by Connor Hurst.
Hurst also hit a solo home run in the 4th inning. Tyrus Barclay hit a solo home run to lead off the 9th inning. The Hornets added 1 more run in the 9th.
Emporia State Coach Seth Wheeler was happy to get the split and win the series.
The Hornets are now 8-7 for the season and 5-3 in the MIAA.
They were scheduled to play Newman Tuesday, that game has been cancelled.
The Hornets go to Central Oklahoma for a 3 game series beginning Friday.
