The Emporia Police Department will be out and about during this weekend’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities to ensure everyone is celebrating safely.
Emporia Police Sgt. Lisa Sage says there are several things officers focus on for holidays such as this. Chief among those are minors in possession of alcohol as well as drunk drivers.
Sage says while these are two very common concerns, the general public’s education has lessened their occurrence.
Along with these, another focus is open container and public intoxication. Sage says anyone found with alcohol outside of a drinking establishment or a designated area will be cited and fined.
Sage adds, there will be an extra police presence during the annual parade at 1 pm, and there may be more frequent bar checks depending on the department’s call load. The Emporia Police Department reminds you if you plan to be drinking Saturday be sure to have a designated driver or an alternate means of transportation home for after the festivities conclude.
