A controlled burn at a residence near Bushong quickly escalated to a grass fire Friday evening.
District 2 Firefighters and Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputies were called out for a reported grass fire at a residence located at 3132 Road F, roughly 17 miles north of Emporia, shortly before 6 pm Friday evening. According to Lyon County Deputy Chuck Moore, owners of the residence were burning trash inside of a trash can, when an item, possibly an aerosol can, exploded leading to the fire.
Moore tells KVOE News, fire crews had the fire under control relatively quickly, however, roughly three acres of land was scorched by the fire. No injuries or damage to the residence were reported.
Emporia Fire Crews were also called out to the scene but were canceled enroute.

Fire crews are currently responding to the scene of a reported grass fire near Bushong.
Emporia and Lyon County fire crews were called out to a grass fire at 3132 Road F, 17 miles north of Emporia, shortly before 6 pm. Details are still pending, however, according to Lyon County Communications, the cause of the fire may have been an aerosol can that exploded inside of a garbage can.
According to the dispatch, less than an acre of grass caught fire, however, the fire was within 300 yards of a horse pasture.
