CASA of the Flint Hills is offering training for individuals looking to become a volunteer for children in need.
CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate and works with children currently in the court system. CASA of the Flint Hills recently completed their winter classes and are now gearing up for a new class beginning in mid-April.
Casa of the Flinthills Director Dena Russel, a recent KVOE Newsmaker guest, says many individuals are often hesitant to become a volunteer due to the court aspect of their position. Russel says luckily their extensive training helps to fully prepare volunteers.
Those wishing to become a volunteer will go through an application process which Russel says is lengthy and will be followed by several background checks. There is room for up to 15 people to take part in the upcoming classes and Russel says there are nine spots still available.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or attending the April training contact CASA of the Flinthills by calling 343-2744 or visiting their website at SOSKansas.com/casa.
