Governor Laura Kelly has approved emergency measures so truckers can take relief supplies to northeast Kansas and neighboring states after devastating floods over the past two weeks.
Kelly signed an executive order giving temporary exemptions from federal regulations if commercial motor carriers are involved in disaster relief operations. These exemptions include licensing, certification and permits.
A combination of heavy snowfall and river ice accumulation and heavy rains early last week led to historic flooding in parts of Nebraska and Iowa last week. That water is now flowing downstream into parts of Kansas and Missouri.
