Veterans are encouraged to stop at the American Legion Post 5 on Saturday for a town hall meeting on the upcoming closure of the Veterans Administration’s outpatient medical clinic in Emporia.
US Senator Jerry Moran will attend to field questions. Updates on the closure and resulting medical care options will be provided by Dr. Rudy Klopfer, the VA’s Eastern Kansas Health Care System director.
The closure of the clinic at 919 West 12th was announced about six weeks ago. The Emporia office currently offers primary care, including vaccinations, telemedicine and behavioral health, for the two weekdays it is open — Wednesdays and Thursdays. It also offers lab work one day a week. Tentative plans are to close the facility by June. Veterans have been advised about several options for health care, including care through non-VA providers for those that qualify or trips to Topeka for service at the VA campus there.
The town hall starts at 8:30 am at Legion Post 5, 2921 West 12th. The meeting should end around 9:15 am, and Moran will then have a Kansas Listening Tour stop at the Legion until 10 am.
