More than 30 local musicians performed Friday night in Cottonwood Falls for the 20th anniversary of the Emma Chase Friday Night Music Shows.
A full house of listeners came to hear these artists give renditions of classic songs like Country Roads and Folsom Prison Blues, and some even sang original pieces they wrote. Each performer brought their own style of country to the stage.
The weekly shows are still named for the now-closed Emma Chase Cafe but have since migrated to the Prairie PastTimes building. Current organizer Annie Wilson talks about the show’s twenty-year-long history.
Since it’s inception in 1999, these music shows have been named one of the Eight Wonders of Kansas and continuously given a platform to local musicians all while remaining free to the public.
Each week offers a different genre to be portrayed, ranging from bluegrass music to gospel music to classic rock ‘n roll and more. For more information on these weekly music shows, visit their Facebook page or website at prairiepasttimes.org.
