Not even Mother Nature’s wintery influence could deter a large gathering at the 5K Run/Walk Fundraiser to support Austin Moore and family.
Austin is a 14-year-old Emporia High School student and varsity cross-country athlete, and in January he was diagnosed with stage four cancer. Austin’s passion has always been running and his mother, Laura Moore is grateful for this event.
Anaplastic Large-Cell Lymphoma (ALCL) is a rare type of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma that is most commonly found in teenage boys.
Darby Cochran Wilson, an event organizer, says Austin is an amazing young man with a huge support system.
The 5K was originally to be held at Jones Park, but the inclement weather caused the race to move to EHS. All funds raised will go to the Moore family to help with medical costs. EHS cross-country coach Michael Robinson also adds that anyone who wishes to donate that couldn’t make it can contact him at michael.robinson@usd253.net.
