With the indoor season soon coming to a close, big changes are on the horizon for the Emporia Farmer’s Market.
There are just two more indoor markets remaining for this season at Water’s True Value. The next upcoming market is scheduled for Saturday, April 6 with the final market set to take place April 20.
Market Manager Jessica Hopkins, a recent Talk of Emporia guest, says the indoor market allows vendors an opportunity to showcase more speciality items during the colder months.
The outdoor market season will begin Saturday, May 4th at 8:30 am in the parking lot at 702 Commercial Street. Along with the excitement surrounding the start of the outdoor season Hopkins also discussed the market’s new partnership with Healthier Lyon County.
The partnership will see the Farmer’s Market expand its operations into both north and south Lyon County. This will be accomplished with help from Healthier Lyon County’s Blue Cross Blue Shield Pathways to Health Grant.
The mission of Healthier Lyon County is to provide healthier food options in areas designated as food deserts. Hopkins explains they found an expansion of the market to be the best available option to help accomplish this goal.
Hopkins explains they are still in the planning process for the expansion, however, they have identified Americus and Olpe as the two locations where the expansion would take place. As Americus currently has a farmer’s market the plan would be to bring it under the umbrella of the Emporia market according to Hopkins.
