The Emporia State softball team swept a doubleheader from Missouri Southern Monday.
They won the first game 4-3 in 8 innings. Kelsey Phillips singled in the winning run. Emporia State scored 3 runs in the 3rd to take a 3-0 lead. Southern scored a run in the 4th and tied the game with 2 runs in the 5th. Montana Mesler was the winning pitcher giving up 3 runs on 9 hits with 4 strikeouts.
Emporia State won the 2nd game 6-0. Kelsey Phillips led the offense with a solo home run in the 4th inning and a 3 run home run in the 5th inning. Sydney Righi tossed a complete game 4 hitter for her 2nd straight win. The Lady Hornets are now 6-4 in MIAA play. They play a doubleheader at Newman Tuesday.
