For the second time this week, one person has needed medical attention after a crash where a driver didn’t stop at an Emporia traffic sign.
Emporia Police and Emporia Fire went to the intersection of Ninth and Prairie just before 9 am after a car and pickup collided. Police Officer Jaffar Agha says the truck was southbound on Prairie and was struck broadside on the driver side by a westbound car on Ninth. Agha says the car’s driver went through the stop sign immediately before the crash, and the early indications are both vehicles were traveling around 30 to 35 mph when they collided.
The truck’s driver was apparently not wearing his seatbelt and was taken to Newman Regional Health for observation and possible treatment afterward. The car driver was wearing her belt and was unhurt. She was cited for failing to stop at a sign.
On Monday, a wreck at Ninth and Neosho happened after a minivan failed to stop at a sign and broadsided a car. The car’s driver was taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment.
Names have not been released with either crash.
