Work to build one mixed-use development in downtown Emporia is already underway, with work coming soon on a major renovation project next door.
Demolition work began this week for the future Preston Plaza and Lofts at Sixth and Merchant. Work on that project should be done by early next year, and developer Cory Haag says the space for businesses and living arrangements will enhance the heart of downtown Emporia.
Meanwhile, the Citizens National Plaza and Lofts redesign work should start by mid-May. That project should also be done in about a year and will also have a combination of business and living space.
Two other mixed-use developments under construction for about a year are either completed or are nearly done. The Roosevelt Lofts at 1102 Commercial is done, with the Legacy Lofts at 1101 Mechanic slated for completion by early June.
