Former Emporia Senior Center Director Lannie Lyman is now set for a final pretrial later this month in her theft case, but an old criminal case against her will now be part of the proceedings if the current case goes to trial.
On Thursday, prosecutors gained approval to use a 2003 criminal case against Lyman as evidence of “intent and identity,” in her current case of theft from the Senior Center, according to Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman.
Right now, Lyman is charged with one count of theft in excess of $100,000 from the Senior Center, with the alleged theft taking place from early 2016 until she was fired in September 2017. The 2003 case involved charges of cash theft and creating false writings during her employment at American Payday Loans. Court documents say Lyman admitted to taking customer checks and then destroying loan agreements as part of that case.
Lyman was chosen as Senior Center director to replace Susan Riley in March 2014. Besides her employment at the Senior Center and American Payday Loans, she had previously worked as patient care coordinator at Hartland Hearing Center and as an admissions specialist at Flint Hills Technical College.
Lyman’s final pretrial is April 17. Trial could start April 22 or May 13, based on the current calendar.
