White Auditorium was abuzz Thursday evening as the 35th annual Working Women After Hours event took place.
The annual event is tailored towards women from Emporia and the surrounding area and allows them to peruse the numerous vendors in attendance who offer wide selections of cosmetics, jewelry, furniture, clothing and food. KVOE Program Director Scott Hayes says the event is a great benefit for both KVOE’s clients and listeners.
Along with the offerings from local vendors those in attendance also had the opportunity to take home an abundance of prizes throughout the evening. This included two grand prizes, the first of which was a new Hotsprings Limelight Bolt hot tub from First Start Pool and Patio in Emporia from First Start Pool and Patio in Emporia valued at $7,000.
Sarah Sumpter was the lucky individual to take this prize home. She says you can expect some pool parties to be taking place throughout the summer.
First Start has been a long time attendee of Working Women and spokesperson Jay Blair says this is due to the atmosphere surrounding the event.
The second grand prize was a pair of diamond-studded earrings from Kari’s Diamonds and Bridal which was taken home by Nicki Nuessen, who just so happened to be Sumpter’s aunt. The earrings are valued at $2,000 and Nuessen says winning with her niece made it all the more special.
Kari’s spokesperson Kathy Zwolenski explains why the store decided to donate one of the grand prizes.
Five lucky women also took home $100 in cash courtesy of KVOE. They include Diana Delgado, Pam Warren, Kortney Rodkey, Anna Hanson and Sharee Riley.
