Crosswinds Counseling and Wellness are continuing to expand on their newest form of offered therapy.
A few years ago a clinician of Crosswinds approached administrators on the topic of Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) for veterans. ART therapy is an evidence-based psychotherapy which fosters rapid recovery by reprogramming the way in which the brain stores traumatic memories and imagery.
Crosswinds CEO Amanda Cunningham says after seeing the effectiveness in the research the push began to implement the therapy into their services. Cunningham explains how ART differs from what some may consider traditional therapy.
The method is predominantly used for treating veterans and patients suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. However, Cunningham says they have seen effectiveness in other areas of mental health as well.
Currently, Crosswinds has four clinicians who have received ART training. Thanks to funds from last year’s Beyond the Banners Project, another training session is scheduled for May 1 with three Crosswinds staff members set to attend.
The training is a three-day class which includes insight to the background of the therapy and hands-on practice with its methods. For more information or to speak with a clinician contact Crosswinds Counseling and Wellness at 620-343-2211 or visit their website at CrosswindsKS.org.
