Two small grass fires went from under control to out-of-control quickly near Emporia on Tuesday.
Emporia fire crews were dispatched to 1849 Road F, just west of Emporia, shortly before 6 pm. Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says a wind shift led to about three acres going out of control. Several homes were nearby, but Conley says none were threatened.
About an hour later, crews were called to the 1500 block of Road 175 for another relatively small grass fire. A cause and official damage estimate have not been released.

What began as a controlled burn in the 1800 block of Road F Tuesday evening quickly escalated to an out of control grass fire.
Fire crews were toned out for a reported grass fire at 1849 Road F shortly before 6 pm. According to Battalion Chief Ryan Conley a brief shift in the wind led to approximately three acres being scorched by the flames.
Firefighters had the fire under control within 15-20 minutes. Despite several residences being located in the area, the flames were never in close proximity to any homes and no structures were affected.

Details are currently pending as fire crews remain on the scene of a grass fire in the 1800 block of Road F.
Crews were called out for a report of a grass fire at 1849 Road F shortly before 6 pm Tuesday evening. The fire began as a controlled burn, which according to dispatch, became out of control for currently unknown reasons.
Details on the acreage damaged by the flames and a cause are unknown at this time. The fire was not near any homes or structures when it became out of control.
