Conversations during the USD 252 Southern Lyon County School Board meeting centered around educational redesign Wednesday.
Board members received reports from the buildings participating in the Gemini II redesign effort. These schools include Neosho Rapids Elementary and Hartford Junior-Senior High.
Superintendent Mike Argabright says the reports contained information on what the buildings have tried and are considering trying in the future with the redesign. Argabright says one item that really caught his attention is the focus on more personalized learning modules.
Argabright adds he believes the biggest challenge for the redesign is change. He notes change is a common aspect of the education system, however, the redesign requires much larger scale changes than usual.
Gemini II is a part of the Kansas Can School Redesign Project and USD 252 was one of 19 districts selected to take part. 47 districts and 103 schools in Kansas are now taking part in the Kansas Can School Redesign Project.
Also during the meeting board members received an update on district facility improvements. Argabright says after complications with the weather the past several months many changes are being noticed at Olpe Junior-Senior high.
He says at this time vertical walls have begun to go up and he expects bricklaying to begin within the coming weeks.
The USD 252 Board of Education will next meet May 8th at 7:30 pm inside the Hartford High school Library.
