The Emporia State baseball scored 6 runs in the 8th inning to grab a 9-3 win over Pittsburg State Friday.
Emporia State grabbed a early lead on a solo home run by Aaron Dees and Cooper Minnick scored to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning. Pittsburg State tied the game in the 3rd inning and took the lead in the 5th inning. Tyrus Barclay drove in the tying run in the 6th. He also drove in the go ahead run in the 8th inning.
Barclay was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI. Aaron Dees was 2 for 2 with 3 runs scored.
In the 8th inning the Hornets scored the 6 runs on 3 hits, pass ball, hit by pitch, sacrifice fly and error.
Tanner Cairns was the winning pitcher going 8 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits with 7 strikeouts. The Hornets are now 21-13 for the season and 15-7 in the MIAA. Emporia State and Pittsburg State play again Saturday with first pitch set for 1pm.
