Runners got to race in the mud Saturday morning at Trusler Sports Complex where the Nitty Gritty Dirt Dash was held.
The race started near the parking lot and went around Campus Woods, ending back at the parking lot. The runners warmed up with a little bit of Zumba led by Amelia Morales before they took on the course and its many obstacles that required the runners to climb, jump, and crawl.
First-time participant Jacob Pittenger loved the race.
The proceeds from the race went to organizations that help kids here in Emporia including Big Brother Big sister, Emporia Child Care, and Camp Alexander. Many of the runners were happy about where the proceeds were going but no one was as excited as Dirt Dash organizer Katie Born.
The turnout for the race was good with plenty of people having fun in the mud. The Dirt Dash was held by Emporia State Recreational Services and if you would like more information on how to volunteer for next years Dirt Dash email them at recservices@emporia.edu or call 341-6778
