Pittsburg State scored 6 runs in the 7th inning to rally for a 7-4 win over the Emporia State baseball team Sunday. Winning the series 2 games to 1.
Emporia State scored a run in the 5th inning, Lou Penner scoring on a Josh Norlin double, to take a 1-0 lead. Pitt State tied the game in the top of the 6th on a solo home run by Chaz Burgess. Connor Hurst hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 6th giving the lead back to Emporia State. The 7th inning began with a throwing error followed by a walk, a sacrifice, fielders choice then 4 straight hits and by the time the inning was done Pittsburg State had scored 6 runs on 5 hits to take a 7-2 lead. Coach Seth Wheeler said they did not handle the adversity well.
Emporia State tried to rally in the 9th scoring 2 runs, Connor Hurst scored on a Cooper Minnick double and Minnick scored on a Tyrus Barclay single, and left 2 runners on base. With the loss Emporia State is now 21-15 for the season and 15-9 in the MIAA. They play a non-conference game at Missouri Southern Tuesday.
